§   Summary Mohd Asraf Ratnawati, Sheikh Ahmad Ismail (2003), Promoting English language development and the reading habit among students in rural schools through the Guided Extensive Reading (GER) Program. This study reported about how to motivate the students to familiarize themselves extensive reading in English and helping the students to understand English texts. The method of this study used Guided Extensive Reading (GER). In this method, teacher needed to give students well information about books and reading material. Secondly, GER conducted when situation in class relax, informal, and teacher focus to helping students read for pleasure. Third, teacher prepares books that correspond to the level of student competence. Forth, students are free to choose books that they like.
